Well, we know that’s not true. In fact, many schools do not allow students to cite Wikipedia as a source; some are blocking the site completely. Still, 36% of American adults online consult Wikipedia according to a recent Pew Internet report. And the largest group of that are 18- to 29-year-olds.

  • More educated people consult Wikipedia
  • Much of the site’s traffic comes from Google and other search engines
  • Convenience of the site is important to 71% of those seeking science information

Wikipedia’s popularity is thanks to the vast amount of information (about 5.3 million entries) and its number one ranking on top educational/reference sites.
