I remember the days of those customizable portals where you could view news, weather, email, a stock ticker, and other things at a glance. They were hot. Excite, Lycos, Infoseek. Now there’s Google’s Personalized Homepage which has hundreds of “Google Gadgets.” I’ve also tried NetVibes which is pretty good. Still, when it comes to news I’ve found a portal with the least frustration and best source of news I actually want to read!
Spotback is by far the best customizable news portal I’ve found. It pulls stories from Google News but only ones that you would like. Just enter a few tags and things you’re interested in and bam! The page is filled with stories and snippets. As you rate them and read them, Spotback does a better job in displaying stories that are of interest to you, and it does a good job. I’m amazed at the amount of news I read in one sitting just because they were stories I was interested in. Gone through a page? Simply click “Get more stories” and the page is reloaded with fresh stories.
Sure, you can also adjust the page layout and how many of what category stories you want.Spotback can even suggest a layout based on your ratings and what you read.
