Google is always at the edge of innovation. Yahoo! is feature-rich but I don’t believe they match the effort and quality Google takes with their products. I’m sure one of the pride and joys Google has is Gmail. And, this holiday season they’ve rolled out new additions to the email web-app.
Gmail Mobile - There was great anticipation for this, although Gmailwireless.com kept avid Gmail users sane for a while and they did a good job. I’ve tried to log into my Gmail account on my Nokia 6820 without much success (the screen came up blank). Gmail Mobile’s cool feature is that it will adapt its interface with your phone.
- Vacation Autoresponder - Ahh, finally! There’s been many a time when I’ve been away from the internet for a couple days and come back to a skillion emails.
- Contact Groups - Gmail says this was one of their most requested features. Honestly, you’ve been able to send to groups all along. Just put a keyword in the comments field of all those in that group and when you do a search for that keyword all those contacts show up. Send to all. Simple.
One new feature I love is how Gmail tells if there’s an address in the email and puts a “Map This” link on the right. Google prides itself in the quality of their products and continuous improvement. Google Space has recently rolled out in Terminal 1 of London’s Heathrow Airport. It’s goal is to get people talking about Google and get feedback. Check it out.
